Hope happens one smile at a time…
One family arrived on the Bread of Life campus at 10pm the night before the monthly distribution to ensure their place in the line, reminding all of us the affects of the pandemic will be long lasting for many even after the rest of society returns to normal. We now use a timed entry approach to avoid the overnight lines and to protect the dignity of our recipients. Bread of Life Inc. distributed $29.5 million in products, food and supplies to affected families in the greater Houston area in 2023 helping over 250,000 people with basic necessities.
Juanita and I started the Bread of Life, Inc. Thirty two years ago serving 500 hot meal daily to our unhoused friends in Downtown Houston. Today we are impacting food insecurity, health inequity, hopelessness one priceless soul at a time. Take a look at the Bread of Life Inc. 2023 Impact Report

reWIREment
When we walked in to the dusty remains of St. John’s Church in September 1992, we knew we had found the place where we were literally shaped and born to lead. Sunday May 28, 2023 was our last Sunday as Senior Pastors at St. John’s Downtown and now we have settled in to our roles as Pastors Emeritus. I’d like to thank my wonderful teammates, congregation, friends, and family for the love we felt throughout the most amazing “reWIREment” send off for me and Juanita Rasmus after serving 31 years at the incomparable St. John’s in Houston Texas. We never imagined this day coming but when it arrived, we realized our work in this season was complete. Now my mission is to lead @breadoflifehtx as Executive Director into a sustainable future. We are grateful for the love and support as we venture to “next” and please know that “we love you and there is nothing you can do about it.”
Ps. Had I not met Juanita at that funeral 40 years ago, this moment would not have happened for me… that’s why I can’t end this note without saying thank you, I love you, and let’s see where life takes us next…

The Knowles Rowland House
The Bread of Life Inc. celebrated the announcement of the $10million Knowles Rowland House Apartments with a reBUILD Ceremony on September 22, 2023
A reBUILD Ceremony
Twenty four years ago in 1999 some beautiful people committed millions of dollars in resources to build a youth center on our campus in Downtown Houston. Sincere gratitude to Beyonce, Tina Knowles, and Kelly Rowland for your generosity then and now. Over the years Beyonce and Tina have continued to support the ongoing work of the Bread of Life Inc. Houston through their BeyGood Foundation. Also, many thanks the members of Harris County Commissioners Court and Rice Management who committed over $8million for the redevelopment of the Knowles-Rowland House, as housing for vulnerable Houstonians. One of my mentors once told me that “we are blessed to be a blessing.” It’s true!!
